Cult of Khaine Warhammer Army Blog

This blog is dedicated to my Dark Elf Warhammer army - The Cult of Khaine.

I have been collecting and painting models for the past couple of years in particular the games workshop warhammer dark elves. These are my favourite minatures out of their range and over the time I have amassed a rather large army. I thought it would be a good idea to blog my development of the army as It evolves to keep a record of my ideas and to showcase the models when I finish them. I will be posting various images, comments and links as I go and would love to hear any comments you have.

Hydra Dragon

Here is my entry for the Open Category GW Gold Demon Award.

I modeled the idea of having a Hydra (5 head) Dragon with a mounted high born riding it.

When I first thought of the concept I looked everywhere for inspiration from other hydra models but had trouble sourcing photos. The different models I found on the web all looked fairly lame without much thought. I started this just before the new Dark Elf hydra came out.

It's took me about 100hrs of sourcing the bitz, modeling, green stuffing and painting. I decided to make the colouring of the heads similar to the Dragon Lance Takhisis character and use the red, white, blue, green and black with black being the predominant colour.

Anyway hope you like the model - I hope to get the photo redone soon and post some better shots but for now I need to package it and send to Sydney for the competition.

Woo Hoo - State Finalist for Gold Demon

Woo Hoo - I made the Nationals for the Gold Demon Award in three of my categories! After all the hassel of rebasing - I won my heats for the State of WA and now go through to the Australian nationals.

Also had a few dramas over my Open Category entry :-(

Apparently to enter this catergory you have to deliver your entry in person as they wont accept enteries mailed to them. To me this seems crap because it is meant to be a national competition so what? You have to live in Sydney to enter? not much of a national competition if thats the case! Anyway I spoke nicely to the guys at the Perth GW store and they are going to post the entry on my behalf with the other catergories! Hope its worth the hassel - and we can show the other side of the country how its done in the West! Ha.

Anyway will post a few photos before I send it this week!

Very Depressing!!!!

Well I must say - I have been very depressed the past few weeks - which explains my lack of posts on this blog.

I have been working on this 6000pt army now for bloody ages and just when the end is slowly in site a major predicament. Most of the models in the army I based on 25mm Square bases thinking this was easier to work with when ranking them up - I also like that there was a bit of space around the models rather then them being cramped together.

Anyway I put my entries in for the Gold Demon comps and made it through the first round with all my entries to the state round - when I was then told that I needed to re base two of the entries because they were not on legal bases. Arggggg major dilemma!!!!

They needed to be based on 20mm square bases as required by the rules and in keeping with the game system. If you ask me I thought the rules were very vague - but I'm not one to argue - they say the models need to be based preferably on the base they are supplied with.

Now me being totally OCD about this whole thing faced this huge dilemma - do I re base and try for the next round or leave them as is consistent with the rest of the army.

Oh well... I entered to win so I have re based the entries and now face the joyous task of re basing the rest of my army so that it complies with the rules. I hope I make it though the next round .... fingers crossed.

Dark Elf Sorceress on Sword Spider

Here is a snap of a Dark Elf Sorceress that I have just finished for the Australian Gold Demon competition. I did quite a bit of conversion work and made this from a variety of bits. This beauty is mounted on a sword spider.... much better than a dark steed. I am currently working on a whole regiment of dark riders that will be mounted on spiders instead of the usual horses. Will post some pics of these when I finish.

... Note to self need to get better camera for photo taking :-)
